Abstract
Solutions for Sustainable Orthodontics
Efficiency and Predictability are possible if we pay attention to 3 key elements: use of appliances programmed with an increasingly "hybrid" approach, aesthetics of therapy not compulsorily based on aligners, and finally, lesser need for patient collaboration.
Therefore, our idea of "sustainable" Orthodontics is based on preadjusted appliances, reduced chair time, fewer complex check-ups, shared and reproducible protocols, with the goal of predictability of outcome, working ergonomics, and costs balanced against the outcome.
This kind of approach, which we call "Essence" could also be interpreted as ‘and...without’ (in italian E-senza), that is, without overtreatments, futile costs, complicated devices, unnecessary waste of time.
The ultimate goal of this interpretation is to achieve "sustainability" of treatment for both practitioner and patient by looking at the Ethics of our work.
We will then see how the predictability of treatments can be increased, in any kind of malocclusion presented, simply by using a combination of means and exploiting the specific potential of each.
Learning Objectives
After this lecture, you will be able to recognize the different types of cases in which hybrid treatment is indicated
After this lecture, you will be able to propose the most effective, efficient, ethical and sustainable solution to the patient
After this lecture, you will be able to evaluate the different objective and subjective components that may influence the choice of therapy
